TELECOMMUNICATIONS: UBIQUITY AND EQUITY IN A BROADBAND ENVIRONMENT
ISCR was proud to host a very successful first Asia-Pacific ITS Regional Conference held at the Government Buildings, Pipitea Campus of Victoria University of Wellington on 26-28 August 2010.
See below for a copy of the presentations and papers.
The geographic and demographic profiles of countries in the Asia-Pacific region show a wide diversity between large and small, wealthy and developing, isolated and integrated nations, with vastly differing telecommunications markets. However, all of these countries share common objectives in their telecommunications policy frameworks, in respect of:
- Universal service, ensuring telecommunications services are available to all consumers at affordable prices, regardless of their geographic or demographic circumstances; and
- Network neutrality, ensuring that the concept of the internet as a seamless, end-to-end utility is maintained by precluding discrimination among traffic of different types or travelling between different destinations.
Keynote speakers included:
Professor Stanford Levin, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
Professor Bob Crandall, Senior Fellow in the Economic Studies Program of the Brookings Institution
Professor Andrea Renda, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS)
This ITS-endorsed conference was supported by premium sponsor Vodafone and ISCR members along with the wider ITS group members (see list of members under sponsors section below). ISCR also acknowledges the support of the KAREN network and CityLink.
