"Sunlight by Design: How can we improve public scrutiny of corporate financial filings?"

In the wake of Bernie Madoff, the U.S. is investigating new ways of deterring financial crimes.  Traditional regulatory supervision relies on centralized, highly manual reviews of corporate filings.  But new technologies hold the promise of achieving more effective scrutiny at lower cost.  A 10-year veteran of the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, Mr. Karp will share his ideas for the future of corporate financial disclosure.

Jonathan Karp is the Branch Chief for Analytics at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  He oversees the operation of the Commission's public website and provides corporate financial data and analysis to SEC staff and to the public.  He received a Master's in Public Policy from Harvard University in 1995.
