Regulating and Managing When Everything is in Flux: New Ideas About Resilience

What makes an organisation bounce back after a "surprise" like an economic melt-down or an influenza epidemic?  How do you regulate an industry that is rapidly evolving?  The answer to both questions may have something to do with resilience.

Patricia Longstaff is a Professor at the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University.  She was a Communications lawyer for 20 years before coming to the Academy.  She received a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University in 1994 and remains a Research Associate at Harvard's Program on Information Resources Policy.  She has received funding for multidisciplinary work in Resilience from the National Science Foundation.  She also serves as a Board member of the International Telecommunications Society.
